Overcoming Vision Challenges and the Journey of Yuna the Resilient Rescue Dog

It has been some time since progress in the studio has moved forward. The main reason is a significant decline in my vision, which now makes it impossible to see drawings being made. This setback has been difficult, as working in the studio is a vital part of my daily life and creative expression. Fortunately, specialists will soon fit new hard contact lenses designed to reshape my corneas. These lenses aim to restore my vision fully, allowing me to return to the studio with renewed focus and energy.

While my vision challenges have paused my studio work, another story of resilience has been unfolding at home. Yuna, our studio dog, has made remarkable progress after a difficult start. Her journey from a stray to a beloved family member is inspiring and shows how patience and care can transform lives.

Understanding Vision Challenges and Corneal Deformities

The cornea is the clear, front part of the eye’s lens, essential for focusing vision. When the cornea becomes misshapen, vision can blur or distort. These deformities often develop gradually and can be inherited or linked to other health issues.

In my case, the corneal shape has changed enough to make it impossible to see fine details like drawings. This condition is frustrating because it directly affects my ability to work and create. The upcoming treatment involves fitting hard contact lenses that gently reshape the cornea by applying pressure. This process, sometimes called corneal molding, can restore vision clarity without surgery.

What to Expect from Corneal Reshaping Lenses

  • Non-invasive treatment: Unlike surgery, these lenses reshape the cornea gradually and can be removed if needed.

  • Improved vision: Many patients experience significant vision improvement within weeks.

  • Adjustment period: It may take time to get used to wearing the lenses, and specialists will monitor progress closely.

  • Potential side effects: Some discomfort or dryness can occur, but these are usually manageable.

This treatment offers hope for many people facing similar vision problems. For me, it means the chance to return to the studio and resume creative work that has been on hold.

Yuna’s Journey from Stray to Studio Star

While my vision has been a challenge, Yuna’s story has been one of growth and healing. She arrived as a stray, taken in by the RSPCA before coming to live with us. Soon after, she unexpectedly gave birth to puppies. The birth was complicated, requiring surgery including a double hysterectomy to save her life.

The Road to Recovery

Yuna’s hormones were out of balance after surgery, causing mood swings and anxiety. This made her behavior unpredictable and sometimes difficult. But with time, her true personality has begun to emerge: calm, intelligent, and eager to learn.

Working with dog behaviorist Vicki Burton has been a game changer. Yuna has already mastered new skills at an impressive pace. She is becoming a star pupil, showing how much potential rescue dogs have when given the right support.

Addressing Anxiety and Social Challenges

Yuna still struggles with anxiety around other dogs, which sometimes leads to impolite behavior. This is common in dogs with traumatic pasts or little socialization. Thanks to her quick learning ability, we expect her to improve rapidly with ongoing training.

Adopting a stray dog means accepting that their past is unknown. It takes patience to help them settle and reveal their true character. Yuna’s progress shows how resilience and care can bring out the best in a dog, no matter their history.

The Emotional Impact of Not Being Able to Work

Not being able to work in the studio has been emotionally taxing. Creativity is a big part of my identity, and losing the ability to see clearly has been frustrating and isolating. This experience has deepened my appreciation for the small things we often take for granted, like clear vision and steady hands.

The hope of restored sight brings motivation and optimism. It reminds me that setbacks are often temporary and that solutions can come from unexpected places, like specialized contact lenses.

Lessons from Yuna’s Resilience

Yuna’s story offers valuable lessons for anyone facing challenges:

  • Patience is key: Healing and growth take time, whether for a dog or a person.

  • Support makes a difference: Professional help, like Vicki’s training, accelerates progress.

  • Every individual has potential: Past difficulties don’t define future possibilities.

  • Small victories matter: Each new skill Yuna learns is a step toward confidence and stability.

Her journey inspires hope and reminds us that resilience often comes from the most unlikely places.

Looking Ahead with Hope

Soon, with my vision corrected, I plan to return to the studio with renewed energy. Yuna will continue her training and socialization, becoming an even more confident companion. Together, we face the future with determination and optimism.

If you or someone you know is dealing with vision problems or caring for a rescue animal, remember that progress is possible. Seek expert advice, be patient, and celebrate every step forward.
